Concealer masterclass: Undertones and finding your match

One of the most difficult to grasp areas of the beauty industry are evidently the ever-expanding shade ranges that beauty companies have for their complexion products. Though it is incredible that shade ranges have become more inclusive and larger to curate to a larger group of people, it also makes it that much more difficult for beginners in beauty to find their perfect shade.

With that being said, here are some tips to help you when trying to find your perfect concealer both in formulation and shade.

1. Concealer type: Depending on your skin type, the concealer you buy should vary. If you have dry or mature skin in which concealer, or any complexion product for that matter, would emphasise or cling to dry patches, opt for a hydrating concealer. If you have a darker under-eye, a more full coverage concealer is probably your best bet. You need to curate your concealer not just to what is 'trending' online but what will suit your personal skin needs.

2. Undertones: There are 3 primary undertones in all skin tones. In order to find the ideal concealer for you, you need to look at the kind of undertone you have and find a concealer that matches those undertones. These three undertones are cool, warm and neutral but something not commonly spoken about is that no one fits into just one category. You can have a mainly neutral skin tone with some warm undertones that make the more neutral concealer shades look too yellow/cool and vise-versa so don't be disheartened if you don't find your perfect match.
