I know from my personal experience how detrimental a spot can be to your confidence. With such a prevalent beauty standard present in the media of having clear skin, it is difficult not to fixate on a spot when it is both uncomfortable and makes you feel self-conscious. This is why I want to share my expertise with you on the best way to cover up a pimple or dark spot with makeup.
Step 1: A good gripping primer
The best way to make your spot concealer last for the longest possible amount of time is by using a tacky primer to secure your makeup to your face. There are a lot of primers like this on the market, including the Elf PowerGrip Primer and the Milk HydroGrip, which I have written about before in previous blog posts.
Step 2: Full coverage concealer
Using a high-coverage concealer such as the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer or the Nars Pot Concealer is key to covering a spot. Make sure to apply thin layers and build up the coverage around this area. I also recommend using a finger to apply the concealer on your problem area in order to maximize the coverage and make it look seamless.
Step 3: Application in-depth
Application is key in covering up a problem area with concealer. My advice to you is to apply a thin dot of concealer on your spot, pat it in with your finger after letting it dry down for a few seconds, and then blend the edges with a small brush for an even coverage and a seamless look.
Step 4: SET, SET, SET
Setting your spot concealer in place is essential for the longevity of the makeup. Set the concealer once it is fully dried down with a powder foundation, such as the MAC or Maybeline powder foundation. A powder that has some coverage will really make sure none of that discoloration peeks through. Then, I recommend using a setting spray to melt all of the products together and make sure that everything is secure.
