The "I'm cold" makeup trend resurfaces periodically every winter as everyone wants to achieve a cute makeup look depending on our summer tans fading away. The name explains the goal of this trend entirely: achieving makeup that imitates the look of a cold winter's day. This includes your stereotypical flushed cheeks and pinky lips with some cool-toned eyeshadow.

I enjoy this trend because it excites me for the winter weather and the 'I'm cold' look I have worn several times this winter. I find the overall aesthetic appealing, and I think the makeup turns out beautifully with the proper execution.

Here is your step-by-step guide to killing this look:

  1. It would be best to start this routine with hydrating skin prep. A primary feature of the "I'm cold" makeup is that your skin is dewy and plump. You can read my other post on skin prep, where I go in-depth into hydrating your skin before your makeup, but essentially, you want to go in with a rich face cream along with a gripping primer such as the Milk Hydrogrip or the Elf Power Grip Primer.

  2. Do your base makeup as usual: Foundation (this can be substituted depending on your preference) and concealer.

3. The most definitive aspect of this routine is the blush and contour application. You can't look bronzed for this 'I'm cold' makeup look to function. However, if you still want to contour your face, use a cool-toned bronzer sparingly to achieve your desired chiselled look. An excellent toned contour avoids the unnatural orange tones in bronzer and looks for more grey tones to imitate sharper cheekbones. Next, your blush should be applied to the apples of your cheeks, the tip of your nose, and the bridge of your nose to create the appearance of flushing from the cold. Then, you can set your concealer using a pink-toned powder if you have one or just a regular pressed powder to retain the dewiness of your skin.

4. Add white highlights to exaggerate this icy look in your inner corners. If you want to emphasise the cold look through your eye makeup, add white waterline eyeliner to your bottom lash line. Finish your eyes off with mascara or falsies (depending on your preference).

5. A pinky lip is The final step to achieve this simple look. I would use the Benefit benefit to add this pinky colour to your lips, but you can decide what lip product feels appropriate. Add a gloss on top of whatever pink lip you agreed on, and your 'I'm cold' makeup is complete!!!

Have fun sporting this look throughout the winter season :)
